How to Become A Registered Condominium Manager (RCM)
Ontario licensed condominium managers are responsible for dealing with a lot of complex issues at properties, including resolving disputes, providing emergency service, and knowing when mechanical systems need to be maintained. Individuals who pursue this career must uphold recognized industry practices and ethical standards, and be committed to providing the highest level of service to directors, owners, and the condominium community in general. Candidates for the RCM designation must go through a rigorous verification process to ensure they can uphold these standards in their career in condo community management.
Why Become an RCM
Unlike General License holders, RCMs are members of the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO), and benefit from access to a professional community of their peers. RCMs continually build on their professional knowledge and expertise through continuing education seminars, robust resources and networking opportunities.
As with any professional group that earns a higher designation, Registered Condominium Managers are dedicated to being the best that they can be. Wilson Blanchard hires the best RCMs in Ontario to manage our properties, providing our clients with the highest levels of service in the industry. Our RCM condo managers have earned their designation due to the attitude and commitment to higher standards that set Registered Condominium Managers apart.
What Does It Take To Become an RCM?
Experience
RCM candidates must complete four courses required by the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) and have at least two consecutive years (~3,500-4,000 hours) of experience in condominium property management with primary responsibility for a condo corporation. The RCM Designation form outlines several required tasks which must be completed during this time.
Course Work
RCM candidates must complete four courses required by the Condominium Management and Administration. The courses include Condominium Law, Physical Building Management, Financial Planning for Condominium Managers, and Condominium Administration and Human Relations. Alternatively, experienced candidates can write a Challenge Exam for each topic instead of completing the course.
Examination
As RCM is a higher designation than the condo management General License, the examination requirements are very stringent. Candidates must achieve an overall grade of at least 75% on the exam and be an Individual Member of the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO). If candidates have bypassed the coursework by writing Challenge Exams, they must have achieved a grade of 75% or higher on each of the four sections.
